  1. Noticed that when I sync my calendar, the iphone and calendar don’t match, but are always 5 hours off.

  2. Re: Problems with iCal sync Posted: Jun 29, 2007 8:46 PM in response to: RobinKaye Reply Email Found this on Apple’s Website….it worked for me.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Reset your truth database by launching iSync (yes, iSync) and opening the Preferences… dialog. Press the Reset Sync History… button and synchronize again.

This will leave your clients registered and your data intact, but force a first-time slow synchronization of all of your sync clients, and should result in the transfer of your iCal data to the iPhone. You should back up your iCal data using the built-in option to do so labeled Back up Database… under the File menu of iCal before performing the reset.

  3. THANK YOU. Completely fixed my problem too which was that my individual named calendars weren’t showing up in iTunes. Would have never thought to go into iSync. The iPhone doesn’t even show up in there.

  4. I am having the same problem but in Outlook. Most of my calendar items sync fine but once in a while one or two are 5 hours off. Does anybody have any ideas?

  5. I did reset the sync history and synchronized again. Afterwards, I placed a new weekly event in my ICalendar. When I synchronized the event with my iphone, it was again 5 hours ahead of time. I have the problem with my time zone support on and when I have the time zone support off. It’s always 5 hours off. My clock on computer is correct.

    Can’t figure it out.

  6. My time zone is set properly and my copmuter clock is correct also. James, are you having the issue with all your calendar items or just some?

  7. Yes, the time zone is set properly on both my computer and my iphone. I have the issue with about 90% of my calendar items. If I create the calendar listing from my iphone, when I sync it, it changes it 5 hours ahead. If I create the calendar listing from my ICal, it still does it when I sync it.

  8. I repaired my disk permissions on Disk Utility and I think that fixed it. Does that make sense that it would have resolved the problem?

  9. I am also having the same problem between outlook calander and iPhone. All my settings are correct on my computer side. Is there extra menus in the iPhone we need to change?

  10. My case is a bit different. When told to sync, iCal appears to try but more often than not never complete. Sometimes you get the SCWOD. On rare instances it does issue an error saying it can’t sync. Whatever is wrong it seems to be this account on this Mac. Since I don’t use it I don’t know what in the cache or preferences I can move aside to try and solve this.

Another issue is the Web page and the real iCal page not being the same all the time. They are mostly. But now and then they differ. So it seems something is being updated somewhere.

I’m at a loss. Help appreciated.

  11. iTunes Calendar Sync Problem

Using MS Office/Outlook 2007. I’m able to synchronize my Contacts, but not my Calendars (in/out). I’ve been in contact with many different Apple Tech Support reps, that have tried everything possible, to no avail.

  12. Reseting iSync worked for me. Thanks for the tip – I’ve been losing calendar entries and couldn’t figure out why – anything I entered onto my iPhone never got sync’d, and then worse would get erased. Now it all seems to work great. Thanks again, STeve

  13. I too am having the problem where calendar entries from Outlook are posting on my iPhone 4 hours later than they should. Can anyone post some step by step instructions?

    (Using Windows XP)

  14. having the same problem with ical and iphone calendars being way off. did the isync history reset, repaired disk permissions, still has the same problems. calendar events created on the phone are off on ical and ical created events are off on the iphone. the iphone even screws up some events that were set in ical when it resyncs. sucks, this basicaly renders the iphones calendar useless.

  15. what’s iSynch and where do i find it? is it in my computer or iPhone?

  16. I had the same problem with the events being 5 hours ahead on the iPhone, but ok in iCal and Entourage. I made sure the time zone was correct and fixed permissions, but nothing worked. Finally, I changed the time zone on the iPhone itself, as well as selected “time zone support-on” in settings/general/date&time on the iPhone. After that, everything was fine. Hope this helps.

  17. SOLUTION for calendars being off.

I was having the same problem when syncing my ical with my iphone, all the entries were correct in my ical and they were 10 hours behind on the iphone. Trying to force sync and trying to change calendar orders etc. did nothing.

What worked: I live in Reno, NV and the closest city to use for my time zone setting on my mac was San Francisco. When I set up my iphone it was using Cupertino CA for its time zone setting, both are in the same time zone, PST. When I changed the iphone time zone to the same city as my mac all of my problems with syncing were fixed!! Seems odd that even though both cities were in the same time zone, having them different on my mac and iphone caused a 10 hour discrepincy on the calendars. OVERALL: MAKE SURE YOUR TIME ZONE SETTINGS ARE THE SAME ON YOUR COMP AND PHONE.

  18. The fix to the iPhone being hours off from iCal (for me, anyway) was to set the time zone on the iPhone:

Settings -> General -> Date & Time -> Time Zone

I had tried it with time zone enabled and disabled, but never actually set the time zone. Once I did that, my times were accurate on my iPhone.

  19. I just got an iPhone and i cant get it to recognize or sync my PC’s outlook 2002 calender and contacts. Any ideas? I am not a techie, but I can’t find any info in the iPhone manuel. Wonder if it will make a difference if I upgrade to outlook 2007?

  20. Regina Sync Calendar and contacts work only with Version 2003 and 2007 no 2002 = XP

Guys I have problems with 1 hour difference I try Settings -> General -> Date & Time -> Time Zone and is the same

    Help Me !

  21. Thanks, Gary!

Resetting the time zone on my iPhone to match that of my computer seems to have done the trick. Oddly, my phone always displayed the correct time before, so I guess the phone and calendar software may use different sources for their clock settings.

I tried Brad’s iSync trick first, but couldn’t tell if it worked, since iSync didn’t see the phone, and wouldn’t pick it up in a scan.

I also noticed that Groups which I had deleted in my Mac’s Address Book still appeared on the iPhone after resyncing, and the phone even forced those Groups back onto the Mac! I deleted the Groups from the Mac and resynced about 3 times, until the Groups finally disappeared from the iPhone’s Contacts list, too.

At any rate, it’s all good now. Thanks, everyone!

  22. I had to go out and buy Outlook 2007 for my new iPhone.

I am having a one hour problem also when iTunes starts on my computer – all my times and zones are correct – I even checked the time at System Setup. Apple tech (2nd tier) is supposed to call me back tomorrow.

  23. To Brad (from July 7 response): Thank you so much; I was going MAD trying to sync my husband’s iPhone which would NOT pick up his calendar items, yet mine had no difficulties at all. All I did was your simple “reset” in iSync and, at last, it resolved itself immediately. What an enormous relief.

  24. My computer broke down, we saved all data before – but the itunes library got mixed up and created a total mess, worse: all my favoured playlists gone!!! How can I SYNC my Computer with my IPOD, and NOT update my IPOD. I want to recover my favoured playlists from my IPOD and its mission impossible! If I transfer the IPOD data to my hard disc, there are no songlists but hieroglyphs like “kmjn” instead of song titles! Its amazingly shocking how OVERPROTECTED song-exchange is, it makes itunes users slaves to their machine. when you switch in you ipod BEWARE the automatic sync starts… and leaves you with an messed up IPOD, you must learn how to disable the automatic sync! took me 1/2 of the night. I will reinstall the OLD ITUNES PROGRAM, much better

  26. Dear iPhone friends,

I own a iPhone v.1.1.3 and whenever I sync it with my laptop with Vista OS & using an Microsoft Office 2003. I usually got a day advance in my iCalendar…

I solved it by setting the following:

    1. go to “Setting”.
    2. go to “General”.
    3. go to “Date & Time”.
    4. go to “Time Zone”.
    5. change the Time Zone to the time zone on your computer (example “Beijing”) or where you are at right now.

Hope the above info. helps…. Bye…

  27. Hello, I also had the 5 hour difference in entries made in the calendar on my iPhone and iCal on my Mac, having read some of the threads above I remembered a trip to the USA a couple of months ago where I must have set the time zone to Philadelphia (on my iPhone). Once this was reset to London (where I live) all seems fine again! Thanks to all who contributed and certainly helped me.

  28. Please can someone help me. I have an HP laptop with windows vista home premium. I have an IPOD touch. It will sync my contacts from windows contacts but not my calendar. I don’t know how to resolve.

  29. Hello, I have a strange problem. My iTunes keep showing old iCal calendars and none of the new ones. As a result I can put new events on my iPhone because the old calendar’s don’t have information and the new ones don’t appear and I can’t sync from Phone to iCal because the calendar’s in “Use” by iPhone don’t exist on iCal…

I already: – reset sync history – Restore my iPhone (and didn’t use the backup info store. I setup a new one) – Deleted all iCal prefs I could find

    Any ideas? Help!!!

  30. I had the problem where everything was syncing hours off (four hours ahead). I just made sure iCal had the time zone support on (it was not when i first started using the program). Then I went through my phone and reset my time zone to my city.

  31. I also had trouble with which calendars that showed up in iTunes. After resetting in iSync iTunes can’t find any calendars. It also wiped out the mail account list which also is empty now…

  32. The issue seems to appear only if the event meets the following criterias: 1. Lays in summer area of Daylight Saving Time (from approx mid-April to mid-October); 2. For recurring events (like birthdays, anniversaries) the start date should be on or after 1980.

That looks pretty ridiculous, but this two criterias drive the process.

So, in Outlook I selected all birthdays on contact page and changed everything to 1980 or later. Of course, no more tracability of age.

  34. It would also seem if anyone is still really having problems that the solution for me was the rather elusive setting on the iphone in Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Time Zone Support and make sure that it is set the same as your computer and your iphone’s time date setting and that cleared up all of my time conflicts. It doesn’t seem to set itself to your time zone automatically.

  35. I went to “Mail, Contacts, Calander” and under Time zone support changed it to “cupertino” which is the same time zone of where I am, ie Los Angeles. and that solved the problem. I did not have to do anything on the computer, whic was set for “Pacific” time Zone”

  36. Hey guys this looks old but Ill throw my problem in here,

Trying to sync my 1st gen. iPhone with iCal through iTunes. iTunes sync pictures, videos, music, programs, podcasts and everything perfect, but not my calendar, i select “sync iCal calenders-all calenders,” and then in the advanced settings i select “replace info on this iphone unit”, and select “calender”…

now, when i select “use” in the lower right corner the advanced setting “replace info on this iphone unit” just unchecks “calendar” and my calendar on my iphone is still empty..

what is wrong? how can i fix this?

    -Thanks

  37. Try this: change date/time to manual local city under settings > reset > reset all settings

in itunes bring up your phone under devices. Go to the info tab at the bottom under advanced – replace phone content from computer sync

  38. To anyone who had the “One hour off” issue between their Outlook Calendar and their Iphone Ical, I have fixed mine. Here is how I did it. Step 1: I went into my iphone “Settings” and went into “General” and then into “Mail, Contacts and Calendars” and changed the “Time Zone Support” from Washington DC to Atlanta (Same time zone but different City). Step 2: I went back into “Setting” and then into “Date & Time” and turned the Set Automatically to “OFF”. This opens 2 drop-downs with “Time Zone” and “Set Date & Time”. I then chose “Time Zone” and changed it to “Atlanta” as well to match the Calendar Setting. I then put it BACK to “Set Automatically” and exited. I checked my calendar and the times were automatically set back to be the same between Outlook and Iphone. I just stumbled on this myself after reading some other very complicated routines and thinking it had to be much simpler. Hope I made sense and you can follow it to your own path of Sanity. Just changing the City that your clock is set to seems to do it. I think it is because the Default setting gets messed up when you activate the phone???

  39. Tom – Thank You! Thank You! I’m not so dim as to not try the Date/Time settings to no avail. Your tip showed me the way, thanks again!

  40. I could not get the fixes that were earlier suggested, but this worked for me. In the iPhone open Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars (below General). Scroll to the bottom under Calendars and there is an option for Time Zone Support, click that, then click time zone and set to your location (mine was set to Syndey Australia probably following a trip). I also have Time Zone Support on, but I’m not quite sure what that is. Anyway this worked for me and now my sync’s for my calendars are working perfectly!

  41. Thanks Bryan #40 – who would have thought that you need to change your local city settings in two spots on iphone. what a joke. this is my first time using an apple product and although evry product has its issues i have found that the solutions to apple issues seem to be perplexing to say the least.

the other day i downloaded a movie into itunes no problems (showed up as a movie) but it wouldnt sync with my iphone until i changed the settings to show it was a music video.

  42. Hello, I have the same problem mentioned earlier by someone else, and so far I can’t find anyone who has a solution. My iTunes keep showing old iCal calendars, but it also shows the new ones.

In addition, I can add calendar events on the iPhone, and at least for some of the calendars, these evens never get synced over to the computer.

  43. There are two places on your iPhone to set the Time Zones. One is: Settings->General Settings->Date & Time->Time Zone *If you can not see an option for a time zone you must turn off Set Automatically.

Two is: Settings->Mail Contacts Calendars->Time Zone Support

If these all match and your computer matches, it should solve the time differences.
