iTunes Music Store pricing changes

Apple has finished the transition to DRM free music and at the same time introduced tiered pricing, where songs will be $0.69, $0.99 or $1.29.

So let’s see how this affects you!

  • 4 of the current top ten songs are still $0.99
  • The remaining 6 songs are now $1.29. Thank you, Apple! </sarcasm>
  • Every Johnny Cash song is $0.99
  • Every Barney the Dinosaur song is $0.99
  • Every Dean Martin song is $0.99
  • Every Blondie song is $0.99
  • Every ABBA song is $0.99 with the sole exception of Dancing Queen, which is now $1.29 (across every album it is on)
  • Every song which has “cherry” in the title, artist or album name is $0.99

Notice anything missing here? Yep, that new bargain basement $0.69 track.

Apple was sure quick to raise prices to $1.29, however.

  1. I really do not think Apple has much to do with the price issues. I believe they should be commended for holding out as long as they have. The ones to be really angry with are the content owners, record labels and studios. DRM was their fault and so is this.

    my two cents anyway…

  2. I completely agree, but they are our protection against the music business. What I took issue with was schiller saying that a vast amount of the catalog would be 69 cents, and that is clearly not the case.

  3. I want to know why you searched for songs with the word “cherry” in it…………

  4. Because I have several. Black horse and a cherry tree, Call Me cover by Cherry Monroe and Play that funky music by Wild Cherry 🙂
