Once that was up and running, aside from the typical Skype disconnections that are to be expected with the PersonalTelco connection here… Continue reading Live from PMUG

Why does Apple have this compulsion to abuse .Mac
Title: Why does Apple have this compulsion to abuse .Mac? Category: Apple .mac could be such a great service. A shining beacon of Apple design. Now don’t get me wrong, .Mac does some nice things. iPhoto ’08 has some great features!
iPhoto 08 adds Events. Events start out as film rolls as we know from previous iPhoto incarnations. When you import photos you get an Event. You can view the rolls via the photos category, or view the Events via the Events category. But here is where it gets very, very cool. I had 5 film… Continue reading iPhoto ’08 has some great features!

The trick is to make MPEG-4 movies and use the proper settings. Here… Continue reading Encoding video for the iPhone
Apple shoots customers in the foot with simplicity, again
Yesterday I had Verizon switch my FIOS from PPPOE to DHCP. I was an early customer so I was on the cruddy PPPOE equipment. Last night I start my usual routine of testing the SonicWall VPN with… Continue reading Apple shoots customers in the foot with simplicity, again

Really, the iPhone’s ringer volume is too low
My bedroom is directly above my office. This morning, we heard “bzzz bzzz bzzz.” We thought it was Elizabeth’s cell on the night stand. Nope, it was my cell phone, vibrating on my glass desk in the office downstairs. Of course, we could barely hear Marimba playing at full volume. But the vibrations coupled through… Continue reading Really, the iPhone’s ringer volume is too low
Dremel and the iPhone headphone jack
There has been a lot of talk about how dumb Apple was with this new headphone jack design, that is recessed and needs an adaptor to work with 99% of the headphones in the market.
