If you are used to editing plist files, such as application preferences, you’ll find some are now compressed for better performance. You can decompress them using the utility ‘plutil’ from the terminal. Open Terminal type: ‘plutil convert xml1 ‘(Note: without the quotes and following space is important!) Drag the plist file from the finder into… Continue reading Tip: Reading Tiger’s compressed plist files

Tip: webdav issues
Under Panther, and it seems in Tiger as well, when I have a webdav server mounted sometimes the system locks up. Applications will lock while trying to open the Open File dialog, the Finder locks, etc. The solution is to keep Activity Monitor on your dock. If this happens to you, launch Activity monitor and… Continue reading Tip: webdav issues
Update: Transmit won’t connect via SFTP
You will need to visit Panic to pick up a Tiger compatible version of Transmit, which even includes a Dashboard widget.
Tip: Use Cocktail to clean out your LaunchServices database
LaunchServices keeps track of which applications have been opened and which applications should open which documents. I’ve found that this database, which is sprawled in several locations on your drive, can become bloated or even corrupted. Fortunately, Cocktail makes this easy to reset to the default state, which I suggest you do if you are… Continue reading Tip: Use Cocktail to clean out your LaunchServices database
Tip: Spotlight and backup disks
If you have a hard disk that you use for backing up, say with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!, I suggest you add that volume to the Spotlight Privacy list, as not only will you duplicate your index size, but the system will try to index the volume as it’s being indexed by Spotlight. This… Continue reading Tip: Spotlight and backup disks

Changed: Mail removed activity widget from viewer window
Sadly Tiger’s Mail has removed any indication of mail activity from the browser window. So now you either need to show the Activity Window (cmd-0) or undisclose the InBox so you can see each and every account mailbox, which will have little spinning indicators next to them while checking mail. Bleh
Fixed: Finally I can sync my Sony Ericsson P900
Tiger comes to the rescue! In Tiger, iSync is broken into two somewhat confusing pieces. .Mac Sync – This is found in your .Mac System Preference pane and is used for synching to .Mac between Mac’s only iSync – In /Applications you’ll still find iSync, used to sync your Mac to your devices, such as… Continue reading Fixed: Finally I can sync my Sony Ericsson P900
Republicans change ethic rules to save Delay
How bad can this party get? The Republicans just changed the ethics rules again to allow any party to stalemate any ethics investigations. Hmm, interesting, no?
Improper tire pressure
I love living in America. Only here will they run a news story about tire PSI and how improper PSI causes 660 deaths a year. And I quote: “And if that is not enough motivation for you, proper PSI can save you money on mileage, too” Sheesh, so embarrassing. If that is not enough motivation… Continue reading Improper tire pressure
In the “how much can we insult your intelligence” category…….
The winner is Amazon, with its line of “back” massagers. What a joke this society is we live in that makes a company feel they need to lie about their products. Get your back massager here
Pope Benedict comes out of the gate with a bang
So the Pope has condemned the Spanish gay marriage bill. Let us keep score: Hatred/Intolerance: 1 Love: 0 Sigh.
Graduated to Orange belt!
Tonight I graduated to second level Orange belt in Taekwondo from the ATA. It wasn’t too tough, even though I had missed a lot of classes. Yellow belt will prove more interesting 🙂
Too much Taco Bell
You know you’ve gone to Taco Bell too often when you have this conversation at the drive-thru window: Clerk: “What? No drink today?” Me: “Naw, I thought I’d mix things up.” Clerk: “Does that mean you’ll be having sauce today?” Me: “I’m not that crazy!”
Favorite moment from Maccamp Spring 2005
Favorite moment from Maccamp Spring 2005: Erik Rogers making fun of the “Mac Fetish” handbag doorprize, mocking “Is it made of….. PLEATHER?” and then winning said door prize.
Maccamp Spring 2005 rocked!
I just got back from the 40th Maccamp (20 years, go PMUG!) and I had a blast! I’ll write more later, but here are some photos and a very special thank you to The Mac Store and Erick Laabs for all of the wonderful prizes, including Albert the Tiger! Maccamp would not be so much… Continue reading Maccamp Spring 2005 rocked!
Alias – Another show off the TiVo
ABC in its continuing screwing of the timeline has decided to run Alias from 9:01-10:02. So since I don’t want to miss the last 2 minutes of a show, nor support this kind of crap, I’ve cancelled one of my favorite shows. Sigh. Someone has to stand up to this nonsense.
I’m an embarrassed American
It looks like Congress is going to keep their track record of horrible decision making and nominate John Bolton as Ambassador to the UN. This is the man who in 1994 said the UN doesn’t exist, said that if the top 10 floors of the UN just disappeared nothing would change and whose own previous… Continue reading I’m an embarrassed American
Get Lost (off my TiVo)
I just noticed that lost is set to record from 8:00 to 9:01pm. Screw you. It’s off my TiVo. When these damned networks learn they can’t screw with my desire to watch TV when I want, I might come back to them. Starting a show a minute late is bad enough, but actually setting the… Continue reading Get Lost (off my TiVo)
