Apple has released OS X 10.6.3. You can find it in Software Update. I’ve been beta testing this release since January, using it daily. As with all releases, many things are fixed and you might run into some gotchas. I highly suggest this release if you play games such as World of Warcraft or Second… Continue reading Mac OS X 10.6.3 has been released
10.6.3 adds Time Machine Verification
This may have been in Snow Leopard before, but I’ve only just seen it in 10.6.3. After updating, the Time Machine menu status changed to “Verifying Backup (n%)” with a “Skip Verification” menu option.
Safari and cookies
When you visit a website, it will often install what are called cookies onto your computer. You can read more about cookies on wikipedia, but just know that they hold information like login name to use for the site, etc. While browsing, you can collect a lot of cookies. I’ve normally not bothered with managing… Continue reading Safari and cookies
Apple needs to fix the app approval process, once and for all
I’m a developer. I have one fun app in the app store, iMoo. I’ll have more. I am also someone who needs to feed my family and pay the mortgage. Read day to day problems. When one decides to take a risk and develop software, the normal model, say for a Mac or Windows application,… Continue reading Apple needs to fix the app approval process, once and for all
Reuse Time machine backups in Snow Leopard!
Apple fixed Time Machine in Snow Leopard! Elizabeth’s laptop died. She had been using our Time Capsule under Leopard. After receiving the new Snow Leopard based machine, I used the migration assistant to restore her machine. Now she is on Snow Leopard. After awhile, the Mac asked her if she wanted to reuse her existing… Continue reading Reuse Time machine backups in Snow Leopard!

Adobe fights back
Lee Brimelow, a flash evangelist for Adobe, made this site mocking Apple for not having Flash on the iPhone/iPad. He had some porn in there I guess, and removed it. In the end he mocks “Millions of websites use Flash. Get used to blue legos” Apparently this fellow Lee hasn’t realized that some of us… Continue reading Adobe fights back
iPad
The iPad is here. In this edition, it is a large iPod with a 3G data connection option. The iPad can run older iPhone applications. It can run one application at a time, which is a disappointment to some. The iPad did ship with a publishing system, the standard ePub ebook format and an application… Continue reading iPad

Apple in talks to switch to Bing?
Hmm. Many rumors about this. Any truth? Who knows. I decided to take another look at bing. Searches ok. Maps don’t scroll well with two fingers on trackpad at all. Maps use Silverlight, vs. standards. That sucks. Decided to look up local pizza places. Clicked on the map. Got: Awesome.
YouTube HTML5 Beta

Exactly why Microsoft Sucks
CES 2010 keynote. Streaming via MS Silverlight. They go to demo their own upcoming product, Halo Reach and guess what? They block it for intellectual property rights reasons. They block their own demo! haha. brilliant.
Embarrassment for AT&T
While at the Blazer’s game tonight I tried to check email. 5 bars. 3G. No Data. Nothing. Then after 30 seconds, no bars. Then 5 bars, then 3G. But no data. All the while, a Verizon “Droid Does” ad is running around the arena. Way to go, AT&T. This isn’t even SF nor NY!
AT&T Mark the Spot app fail
Hey AT&T, here is a tip: If one of your customers doesn’t have a data connection, they can’t mark the spot with your app. Maybe you should consider saving off a record and submitting it later when the customer has a data connection again.
Happy Holidays from Geeks R Us!
2009 has been a tenuous year for many of us. Some have been out of work, some have been on the verge of being out of work, many are starving while others are just plain nervous. While this sounds like a downer for a Holidays note, I urge us all to remind ourselves about what… Continue reading Happy Holidays from Geeks R Us!
