I hired a handyman to install my Sears Kenmore Air Conditioner (good thing too, just as I expected, was a goofy fit) He is cutting weatherproofing to seal off what the plenums did not (what a joke, gaps everywhere) and then I am going to silicone seal it up and paint it. Already the temp… Continue reading I have AC!

Yay!
My contract has been extended, so I am gainfully employed for at least 6 months. Good news in hard times. Smalltalk is so much fun!
Pictures from Europe
I’ve posted some pictures from my trip to Europe. None of me, but I did take them! Europe is fascinating and I cannot wait to return and have more time to explore the counties here.
NASA confirms shuttle cause?
This article talks about a recent test run that left a 40cm hole in a shuttle carbon panel from a chunk of foam. The “smoking gun” seems to confirm that this is what doomed Columbia.

Mac illiteracy
This hotel I stayed in has 802.11b. I had bought a Linksys card for my TiBook and it works, but only 2 bars, so NO WAY the airport would have worked. They told me it was not Mac compatible. I said “Give me the PC instructions” All I needed was the SSID. Then it worked.… Continue reading Mac illiteracy
Apple Airport 3.1 now supports third party wireless cards
I wanted better airport/802.11b reception so I looked into third party antennas. Then I found I could get a Macsense 802.11b card for $99 but nobody had them. So on a lark I bought a Linksys 802.11b/g card for $80 from CompUSA and was going to find some third party drivers or hacks to make… Continue reading Apple Airport 3.1 now supports third party wireless cards

This is cool :)
I was iChat video chatting with my bro, and walked around the house and outside with my laptop and camcorder, and gave him a little tour. That is not as easy as it sounds! But it did work well!
Beware Hello Jaguar
A friend installed this shareware hack onto his 15″ imac, rebooted, got a blinking question mark. After 2 days, it went back to Apple and was reported to have a bad logic board. Beware of this low level hack!
SnapzPro conflicts with iChat AV
On Monday I was trying to use iChat AV and the video was SO SLOW I could not move windows, type, nothing! I thought it was my DV cam vs. my 500 TiBook. Then I logged out and back in today, and tried it again with my brother, and the speed was great! Then while… Continue reading SnapzPro conflicts with iChat AV
On Benchmarks
Ok so there is all of this brohaha over Apple’s benchmark numbers being faster than a Dell or AMD or what not. People are writing 5 page articles on how Apple lied and used cheesy tests. However, some people see the humor in this, such as the wonderful Ars story on this subject. What really… Continue reading On Benchmarks
Fostering
Foster kindness in your heart, some seeds may fall, but some will have a good start. Foster love, for others in your life, a smile or a hug, can reduce a little strife. The winds, the skies, our earthen soil, they foster us by training us, times to play, times to toil. Often wrongs are… Continue reading Fostering
Panther Redux
Wow. New G5s (drool), and Panther was so so in my book, but I will love Exposé, the feature that elegantly lets you navigate windows. That rocked! Fast search looked really cool too. Fast user switch was awesome, even tho I don’t use it much. However, one might be inclined to now, simply for things… Continue reading Panther Redux
iChat AV, uChat AV, we all chat AV
I spent some time today trying out iChat AV on my TiBook 500. The audio was fairly poor with a lot of background noise on both ends. The video didn’t work much better. Forget putting an AV connection in the background, the mac grinds to a halt. This could be due to Comcast, they have… Continue reading iChat AV, uChat AV, we all chat AV
Safari 1.0 ships – Still needs Java work
Apple shipped Safari today! I am not sure what is improved over beta 2, but I know they did not fix Java. Java still opens this console window up (that can never close) and Digichat’s java chat client does not work either.
