Dex Knows!

So we see an ad on TV for DexKnows.com (the phone book) “Dex knows!” the ads say. Alright, I’m up for trying out new things, so I go to dexknows.com and search for “indian” near my zip code. It suggests a lovely indian restaurant. In Eugene, Oregon. 127 miles away.

I have unsubscribed from Digg.com’s RSS feed

Until Digg stops forcing people to use their Digg Bar1 and stops redirecting all hits (via 200’s) to their own site, I have stopped reading Digg and have stopped sending them any traffic. Speaking up against sitejacking is important. Facebook and StumbleUpon wrap sites, but they at least send 301 codes, which redirects properly to… Continue reading I have unsubscribed from Digg.com’s RSS feed

Bar the DiggBar!

As John Gruber so eloquently put it, the new DiggBar is crap. It violates the notion that the url you see in your address bar is the page you are viewing. Not only that, it also changes the title to read whatever Digg has stored for your URL. Thus, I have installed the Digg Bar… Continue reading Bar the DiggBar!

Regarding MacHeist

There has been a lot of controversy over MacHeist. I’ve purchased a heist in the past, mainly for ChaChing, and I never use the application because it just doesn’t do what I need it to do. So, Lukas Mathis asks if the heists hurt the developers who are not in the bundle. I can’t speak… Continue reading Regarding MacHeist

Spiral Frog shuts down

John Gruber reported on the music service from Spiral Frog shutting down. He predicted it was a dud back in 2006, and I wrote: Nice! So they use the Windows DRM, and use the Apple-doesn’t-license-fairplay excuse to not play on iPods, but they don’t even work on Zunes! And if Spiral Frog is indeed backed… Continue reading Spiral Frog shuts down

A week with Safari 4

I’ve spent almost a week with Safari 4 now and I thought I’d share my experiences: History I wrote about this already, but the combination of having a history search box on the Top Sites page, plus the inclusion of Cover Flow is fantastic. Some said that Coverflow is eye candy, but I’ve experienced just… Continue reading A week with Safari 4

ScanSnap for the win!

This morning my Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 came through! The lamp on my Mits DLP TV had died after two years of service so I needed all of my warranty paperwork. I searched for “Mitsubishi” in Spotlight and bam! Top hit, the one document with all of my receipts, extended warranty paperwork, all nicely scanned and… Continue reading ScanSnap for the win!

History Search in Safari 4

I’ve seen a number of reviews of Safari 4, but I have not seen any cover the importance of promoting history search to the Top Sites page. Safari has had history search for awhile. To use it in Safari 3, you had to click the Bookmark button, then click History in the list on the… Continue reading History Search in Safari 4

Safari 4 takes UI from Windows XP – But not in a good way

I love Apple, I really do. The recent beta release of Safari 4 has some really exciting features, such as faster javascript, a new Top Hits view and better history searching. However, in an attempt to steal some thunder from Google’s Chrome, Apple moved the task bar from below the bookmarks bar and replaced the… Continue reading Safari 4 takes UI from Windows XP – But not in a good way
