Sadly, I have not see the original version of Manchurian Candidate, The (2004). The remake was entertaining however, a bit predictable and since I have heard that the ending is different than the original, I won’t spoil it. I have to think that this was created my liberals though. Just seems to have that “evil… Continue reading Manchurian Candidate
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004) was a fun throwback to a film noir-esque movie but with all sorts of fantastic futuristic robots and the cinematography, of which there was none, was gorgeous. The movie was shot entirely on blue screen and had old photos and animated this and that layered in, along… Continue reading Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Cancelled my season pass to The Screen Savers
The Screen Savers as not been the same since G4 bought TechTV and Leo left. But today’s show ,where co-host Alex smashed up a perfectly working Mac out of some childish anger, which could have at least been used by a school somewhere, that was it. I don’t need to hear the 95% stories –… Continue reading Cancelled my season pass to The Screen Savers
New iPod mount for the car
My homemade mount kind of fell apart in a hand swiping accident last week, so I ordered a Pro Clip. This thing should attach to my mount in the car and let me slide in the iPod and plug in the cable. I wanted a more dock-like experience, but this will work.

LAX outage due to Windows error
Ok all you millions of people affected by this problem a couple of weeks ago, when LAX Central shut down and flights were cancelled all over. Turns out a technician did not do the “monthly reboot” of a WINDOWS server. They had moved from Unix to Windows. When will people learn? Fools, the lot of… Continue reading LAX outage due to Windows error
I found some of your life found out
It seems that the folks who lost the pictures used on the “I found some of your life” site found the site and now it is down. For those of you who did not know, someone left a digital medial card in a cab or something. This guy found it, and since he didn’t know… Continue reading I found some of your life found out
Microsoft copies Apple, again
One again, as reported by the NYT and Cult of Mac, Microsoft has shown no ability to innovate and is copying the iTunes Music Store for it’s own MSN store. ‘Apple set the bar very high,’ a Microsoft manger admitted. ‘We’re trying to match that. We told our developers, ‘Look at how Apple does it.”… Continue reading Microsoft copies Apple, again
Jersey Girl
I like Kevin Smith, so i rented Jersey Girl (2004). Course after I started watching it, I realized I had seen it, within the last six month of course. I guess that does not say much for the movie? Sucks, cuz I really like Kevin Smith.
Toshi Sushi
Toshi Sushi is right around the corner from me on 185th. A traditional setting, traditional music and a warm staff. The meal started with a traditional salad with some orange dressing (was good, not sure what it was), miso soup and hot tea. Sushi was excellent, including maguro, unagi, sake and hamachi. I also had… Continue reading Toshi Sushi
Napoleon Dynamite
Napoleon Dynamite (2004) was a movie that reminded me far too much of my youth, haha. Quirky, sad, funny, odd this movie is a fine departure from normal Hollywood Blockbuster crap. Check it out, I give this one 4 geeks. Ok I just made that up, I wonder what a Geek looks like. I’ll need… Continue reading Napoleon Dynamite
Geek Culture’s Take on Jobs in the Hospital
haha the Joy of Tech is pretty damn funny today. Look out, Steve, Woz is back!
Bend It Like Beckham
In Bend It Like Beckham (2002), a talented indian female footballer is confronted with her culture, authority and womanhood. Feel good wrapped up in sports. I kept seeing Nila and thinking she’d run off the field as “not good enough” for her position.
Ran
It took me 19 years to finally see Kurosawa’s Ran, an adaptation of Shakespear’s King Lear. It was fantastic. I only took 2 breaks during the 160 minute saga. The pace was good, the story of course was excellent and as hoped, by the end, we’re left wondering why we’re such a dumb, violent, insecure… Continue reading Ran
Shaolin Soccer
Siu lam juk kau (2001) (Shaolin Soccer) is a wonderfully campy kung fu movie that meets hokie sports and modern computer special effects. The original chinese version is more serious, even without the subtitles, the actor’s voices are more serious than the stereotypical high pitched/whining voices used in the Americanized version. Both versions are enjoyable… Continue reading Shaolin Soccer
TiVo’s one huge flaw
TiVo’s one huge flaw is that it does not track season passes across channels. I had been wondering why I was not seeing any Deadwood episodes and now I realize why – They are on HBO2 now, not HBOW. The listing does not show them as repeats, so who is to know? So the episode… Continue reading TiVo’s one huge flaw
George Lucas is a dumbass
Lucas has done it again. With the much anticipated release of the original Star Wars trilogy, he just could not leave classics alone. No, he had to fuck with them. Who wants to see WHINEY Hayden Christensen??? My god! And he completely replaced the Emperor! And Han and Greedo fire at the same time? What… Continue reading George Lucas is a dumbass
Source of Genesis crash discovered
My brother sent me this telling data about why the Genesis probe crashed to earth after neither of the two chutes succeeded in opening. It turns out that Genesis was on track to a proper snag by the helicopters but as it came through the atmosphere, Service Pack 2 was automatically installed and activated. Next,… Continue reading Source of Genesis crash discovered
Chain Reaction
Chain Reaction (1996) was another action vehicle for Keanu Reeves. Even with Morgan Freeman, the bad guy with a soft spot, it was a horrible movie. As the movie did, twice, big bomb.
So long, Furyan, you served me well, and sucked my life away
My everquest account was cancelled today. While i had not played in over a year, in the previous 5 years I spent far too much of my free time playing that game. Never a hard core gamer, Furyan never made it past 59 nor got his holy Steed, but he had a wonderful time making… Continue reading So long, Furyan, you served me well, and sucked my life away
