I tried updating 6 apps via the iPhone 4 today. 4 updated, 2 did not. They have the empty progress bar badge across their icons. Rebooting the phone asks me for my iTunes password, but they won’t update. Fun! Update: Never mind, it is updating Navigon at 1.5gb on the last page.
AT&T iPhone 4 woes
So my new iPhone 4 can’t make calls. On 3G, I get 1 bar or no service. On my 3GS, things were not great, but I could make calls, but they might drop. AT&T now says my closest tower is 3.5 miles away, with heavy terrain blockage, while the second tower is 4.8 miles away… Continue reading AT&T iPhone 4 woes
On receiving my iPhone 4 a day early
Tech blogs are abuzz about the “select lucky few” getting their iPhone 4’s early. I don’t have an exact count, but I’d bet it is in the thousands. I ordered my phone as soon as the Apple Store came online, so I know I was in the early bunch. Delivering a product early is unprecedented… Continue reading On receiving my iPhone 4 a day early

Sharing iTunes content
Elizabeth and I have verified that you can share iBooks across itunes accounts. Here is how it works: You need to authorize the two computers you sync your iDevices with to each other’s account. In other words, my machine is authorized for her iTunes account, her machine is authorized for mine. You do this via… Continue reading Sharing iTunes content

I hate Flash video
I don’t hate Flash video because Steve Jobs hates Flash video. I hate Flash video for real reasons, such as: Spending 35 minutes trying to watch Chuck on NBC.com. I tried three browsers. They all stalled or skipped. Every time I changed an option, it would run the damned Marriott ad again. I saw it… Continue reading I hate Flash video

Apple posts consequences of jailbreaking, but…..
Apple has posted about some consequences of jailbreaking your iPhone but I experience one of the “consequences” daily on a stock iPhone: Unreliable voice and data: Dropped calls, slow or unreliable data connections, and delayed or inaccurate location data. So maybe the tech support article should have been titled “Unauthorized modification of iPhone OS (or… Continue reading Apple posts consequences of jailbreaking, but…..

iPhone OS multitasking for newer phones only
“We are releasing it for end users for iPhone and iPod touch for users this summer. For the 3GS and iPod touch 3rd gen. And, for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd gen, they will run many things… but there are some things they won’t run, like multitasking.” No mention of the 2G at all.
Apple adds multitasking to iPhone OS 4.0
Yep! You heard it! According to what I’ve seen, applications will be suspended by default. Apps will need to be written to run in the background using new APIs. This is what I predicted; To allow any poorly written app to multitask would be a CPU, memory and battery nightmare. Developers who put the work… Continue reading Apple adds multitasking to iPhone OS 4.0
