Avventura, L’ (1960) is an award winning Italian film from 1960. I’d seen this movie in the Criterion catalog since the first year I worked at Voyager in 1988 but never got around to seeing it. it is a bit slow, but the scenery is great. The plot is not obvious as you are taken… Continue reading L’ Avventura

Lilo and Stitch
Lilo & Stitch (2002) was cute, but I just can’t have the adoration for some of the new Disney stuff as I have for the classics. I was yawning. Give me Pinocchio any day 🙂
A Clockwork Orange
Alright, Clockwork Orange, A (1971) was amazing, creepy, freaky and just odd. Artistically the movie was fantastic. I suppose it was an interesting statement on humanity, draped in sexual violence. Kubrick had a think for the sexual subculture it seems. This really is a must see, and I think I’ll have to watch it again,… Continue reading A Clockwork Orange
Network
I’d heard some of the famous lines from Network (1976) many times, such as “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.” What is scary is how accurate the film was in predicting how attached to the tube we’d become and now brain dead a society we’d become. The current elections… Continue reading Network
Meaning of Life
I finally was able to see Meaning of Life, The (1983) all the way through. I love Python but I’d always watch this late and fall asleep. I think it was the sketch nature of the movie. I can’t say it is my favorite of their works but at least I fully understand the ferocity… Continue reading Meaning of Life
Misery
Wow, I had never gotten around to seeing this and no wonder Kathy Bates got pegged as a psycho. She really owned the role of Annie Wilkes in Misery (1990). James Caan did a fine role also, but it was Bates who stole the show. What a creepy, creepy performance. Anyone care to kill off… Continue reading Misery
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Saw League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The (2003) on HBO last week. It was better than I had thought it would be and has inspired me to read “The picture of Dorian Grey” I found the size of the Nautilus fascinating and I am sure it is not due to any phallic reference. Capt. Nemo was… Continue reading The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Peter Pan
Believe it or not, Disneyland freak me had never seen the original Peter Pan (1953), as least not to my recollection. So I saw it. Tinkerbell was a bitch! Wow what a bunch of jealous women on that island. No wonder so many guys never want to reach Never Never Land with a woman. LOL.… Continue reading Peter Pan
M
I rented Criterion’s M (1931) not really knowing what to expect. I enjoyed it, but it was a tad long and slow. However, for a 1931 film, I thought the acting was quite good and it had that Frankenstein feel, you know, the audio crackling, missing frames, etc. I really dig that. The movie was… Continue reading M
The Experiment
Experiment, Das (2001) movie was great – German origin, subtitles, about an experiment to simulate a prison, using volunteers off the street. Acting was well done, a tad predictable, but thoroughly enjoyable.
